THINK&DRINK GUIDELINES

Think&Drink programs strive to spark provocative conversations about big ideas.

This program invites you to participate in a facilitated public conversation with scholars who have expertise on a certain subject. The idea isn’t to create consensus, but to foster an environment open to discussion of varying viewpoints, ideas, and perspectives.

Keeping this in mind, we ask that you treat all participants, speakers, and the venue with respect. Also, you should HAVE FUN!

  • While we may explore other avenues over the course of the conversation, the scholar and the moderator will direct our main thread.
  • Some individuals prefer to listen to the conversation around them. Some may be eager to jump right into the discussion. There’s no wrong way to participate! Join in when you’re ready.
  • When the conversation opens to the whole group, we operate under the old-school, tried-and-true, raise your hand method. Please wait until you are called on before speaking.
  • We would like everyone’s voice to be heard. Allow those who are speaking to finish their thought before you share your own.
  • All opinions matter equally.
  • You may not agree with some ideas that are shared. THIS IS OKAY. Respond with respect. Remember it is the idea or concept you disagree with, not the person speaking.
  • You may agree with some ideas that are shared. Clapping is great. Let out a cheer if it feels necessary. Booing is for ghosts.
  • Asking WHY is a great way to find more understanding.
  • Democracy is very messy. Progress isn’t easy. But we’re glad you’re here to explore ideas with your community. Celebrate with a drink!
  • Always tip your bartender.
