Our
Programs
Designed for all, we strive to make lifelong learning accessible, affordable, and meaningful. Among Humanities North Dakota's events and online classes, you'll discover an array of topics spanning the humanities disciplines: history, philosophy, civics, literature, language, anthropology, and law.

This commitment to meaningful education has only deepened in the face of ongoing budget cuts. When the federal government eliminated funding for state humanities councils, we responded by building on our foundation. Humanities North Dakota created The Study, a national platform designed to keep humanities education thriving in our state and across the country.

Introducing The Study:
A National Lifeline for the Humanities
When the federal government cut all funding for state humanities councils, Humanities North Dakota took bold action. We created The Study, a national platform offering online classes, podcasts, and Study Clubs led by top scholars. It is rooted in North Dakota’s spirit of leadership and resilience.

America250
In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, Humanities North Dakota is dedicated to providing meaningful opportunities for reflection and civic engagement through humanities-based programs.

From classes on constitutional history to public events that explore the complexities of America’s past and present, Humanities North Dakota is committed to creating spaces where people can come together to think critically, exchange ideas, and deepen their understanding of what it means to be a part of this ongoing democratic journey.

Humanities North Dakota will host a series of dynamic living history presentations featuring Founding Fathers, framers of the Constitution, and American heroes. These theatrical portrayals—grounded in scholarship and brought to life by acclaimed historical interpreters—offer audiences a powerful way to engage with the individuals and ideas that shaped the nation. Through performances, lectures, and interactive Q&A sessions, these events invite North Dakotans to explore the legacy of American democracy and the responsibilities of citizenship in the 21st century.

Humanities North Dakota also supports the next generation of civic leaders through its We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program, which engages middle and high school students in the study of the U.S. Constitution and the principles of democratic government. Through academic exploration, simulated congressional hearings, and statewide events, students develop a deeper understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, preparing them to be thoughtful, informed participants in our democracy.
